HC Deb 26 May 1988 vol 134 c254W
Mr. Janner

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what action he has taken to remedy past inequalities in employment practices in his Department, in compliance with the codes of the Commission for Racial Equality and the Equal Opportunities Commission, respectively.

Mr. Brooke

The Treasury has taken a number of positive measures to encourage equal opportunities All in-house management training courses include an equal opportunities element. External development training courses only for women are advertised in the Department and have been attended by a number of women. Training and personnel managers attend a number of equal opportunity seminars and conferences throughout the year which add to their understanding of equal opportunity issues.

Job sharing, part-time working and career breaks to assist with individual domestic circumstances are encouraged where practicable.

Monitoring of ethnic recruitment is also undertaken to determine whether there are any signs of discrimination. There is no evidence to show that there is.
