§ Mr. MullinTo ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) if he will call for a report from the chief constable of the City of London police as to why Mr. Chris Jameson was not interviewed in the course of the recent inquiry into conflicts between the two principal Crown witnesses at the appeal of the six men convicted of the Birmingham pub bombings;
(2) if he will call for a report from the chief constable of the City of London police listing the persons interviewed in their inquiry into contacts between the two principal Crown witnesses in the recent appeal hearing of the six men convicted of the Birmingham pub bombings;
(3) if he will call for a report from the chief constable of the City of London police as to the cost of the recent inquiry into contacts between the two principal Crown witnesses at the recent appeal hearing of the six men convicted of the Birmingham pub bombings;
(4) if he will call for a report from the chief constable of the City of London police as to how many people were interviewed during their recent inquiry into contacts between the two principal Crown witnesses during the appeal hearing of the men convicted of the Birmingham pub bombings.
§ Mr. John PattenNo. I refer the hon. Member to the reply I gave to his question of 19 May at column541. The conduct of the investigation, including decisions on which persons to interview, is an operational matter and is the responsibility of the Commissioner of the Police for the City of London. I understand that no additional costs were incurred in the investigation.
