To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will give the total number of beds in private medical clinics in Scotland.

§ Mr. Michael Forsyth
In terms of the Nursing Homes Registration (Scotland) Act 1938 as amended, 5,063 beds were available in private nursing homes and hospitals as at 31 March 1987.
