Mr. Pendry

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how many meetings with the Friends of the Earth the Minister for Sport, the hon. Member for Lewisham, East (Mr. Moynihan), has attended in the course of his official duties in the last year; and if he will list them.

Mr. Moynihan

I have had no official meetings with the Friends of the Earth during the past year although I have met individual members of that organisation from time to time.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) how many meetings concerning historic buildings the Minister for Sport, the hon. Member for Lewisham, East (Mr. Moynihan), has attended in the course of his official duties in the last year; and if he will list them;

(2) how many meetings concerning ancient monuments the Minister for Sport, the hon. Member for Lewisham, East (Mr. Moynihan), has attended in the course of his official duties in the last year; and if he will list them.

I attended meetings concerning historic buildings and ancient monuments on 22 June 1987, 28 June 1987, 30 July 1987, 24 September 1987, 28 September 1987, 20 January 1988, 27 January 1988, 9 February 1988 and 24 February 1988.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how many meetings concerning royal parks the Minister for Sport, the hon. Member for Lewisham, East (Mr. Moynihan), has attended in the course of his official duties in the last year; and if he will list them.

Mr. Moynihan

I attended meetings on 30 July 1987 and 3 November 1987 and I visited the royal parks on 30 October 1987.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how many meetings with trade unions involved in the water industry the Minister of Sport, the hon. Member for Lewisham, East (Mr. Moynihan), has attended in the course of his official duties in the last year; and if he will list them.

Mr. Moynihan

Since taking office I have had no meetings with the trades unions involved in the water industry.

On 18 April officials of the Department met representatives of NALGO to discuss the proposed establishment of the National Rivers Authority and the privatisation of the water authorities' utility functions. The water authorities will themselves consult the trades unions on the schemes of reorganisation which they have been asked to prepare.

Since taking office I have met representatives of the regional water authorities on 16 occasions as listed:

Two. I met the chairman of the Countryside Commission, Sir Derek Barber, on 27 January when we discussed, among other things, appointments to the national park authorities. On 8 October 1987 I attended the international symposium on protected landscapes in Grange-over-Sands which was organised by the commission.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how many meetings with the Nature Conservancy Council the Minister for Sport, the hon. Member for Lewisham, East (Mr. Moynihan), has attended in the course of his official duties in the last year; and if he will list them.

I have not needed to attend any meetings with the Nature Conservancy Council (NCC) since my appointment last year. My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Environment and other ministerial colleagues who are more closely involved in the council's affairs have met members of the NCC on several occasions during the last year.

I have attended meetings concerning Ordnance Survey on 11 occasions since June 1987.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how many meetings with the British Waterways Board the Minister for Sport, the hon. Member for Lewisham, East (Mr. Moynihan), has attended in the course of his official duties in the last year; and if he will list them.

I met the British Waterways Board (BWB) chairman on 19 November 1987, and on 15 January, 5 February, 21 March and 19 May this year. In addition, I visited the BWB Birmingham area on 11 March and opened the Milton Keynes marina on 30 April.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how many meetings with the League Against Cruel Sports the Minister for Sport, the hon. Member for Lewisham, East (Mr. Moynihan), has attended in the course of his official duties in the last year; and if he will list them.

None. But representatives of the Ramblers Association met my right hon. Friend, Lord Belstead, when he was Minister for Environment, Countryside and Water, on 27 October 1987 and I have had informal discussions in the course of my official duties.
