§ Mr. BoswellTo ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the estimated annual cost of abolishing the income limits for the various age allowances against income tax; and how many taxpayers would benefit respectively.
§ Mr. Norman Lamont[holding answer 16 May 1988]: The full year cost of abolishing the aged income limit in 1988–89 would be about £190 million and about 750,000 199W single people and married couples would benefit. The estimates are based on a projection of the 1985–86 survey of personal incomes and are therefore provisional.
