18. Mr. Millan

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what steps he is taking to ensure that the Scottish electricity industry, if privatised, will not fall under foreign control.

Mr. Rifkind

The Government are considering whether any special share arrangements are required for the privatised electricity industry. Our decision will be announced in due course.

42. Mr. Maclennan

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland when he intends to make a definitive statement on the Government's strategic priorities for the electricity supply industry, as foreshadowed in his White Paper, Cm. 327.

Mr. Rifkind

Discussions with the Scottish electricity boards on the future structure of the privatised industry and a range of other related issues are continuing. I 'will announce the outcome of these deliberations in due course.

47. Mr. Macdonald

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what further consultations he has undertaken on the privatisation of the electricity industry.

Mr. Lang

Detailed discussions with the Scottish electricity boards on a wide range of issues relating to privatisation are continuing on a regular basis. Representatives of customers and employees are also being consulted about matters of concern to them.
