HC Deb 24 May 1988 vol 134 cc101-2W
Mr. Eadie

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy what information he has on the extent to which certain operators in the North sea oblige employees to bear the financial cost of health, safety and survival training for working offshore.

Mr. Peter Morrison

I am aware of only one instance where a contractor in the North sea obliged his employees to bear the financial cost of survival and fire-fighting training courses for working offshore. I understand that the contractor ceased this practice in 1986.

Mr. Eadie

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy what information he has on the extent to which certain employees working on North sea oil platforms are not being paid two weeks' leave pay in accordance with the work practice of two weeks off and two weeks on.

Mr. Peter Morrison

I understand that it is not uncommon in the offshore contracting industry for employees to be paid only for the weeks in which they work.
