To ask the Secretary of State for Wales whether he is now in a position to he able to announce the outcome of the consultation process undertaken by his Department during 1986–87 concerning the desirability of initiating new Welsh language legislation; and if he will make a statement.

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales when he expects the evidence submitted to his Department in response to its consultation exercise on the desirability of new Welsh language legislation carried out in 1986 and 1987 to be made available to the public for inspection.

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what detailed evaluation has been carried out by his Department of the responses to its consultation exercise on the desirability of new Welsh language legislation carried out in 1986 and 1987; in what form he expects such evaluation to he made available to the public; and if he will make a statement.

Substantive comments have been individually considered in depth and the main thrust of these will he reflected in the announcement which my right hon. Friend hopes to make shortly on his plans for action with regard to the Welsh language.

Member for Caernarfon of Friday 11 March,Official Report, column 367, why his Department has not compiled a list of those persons, bodies and associations which submitted evidence to his Department on the desirability of new Welsh language legislation during the consultation exercise carried out in 1986 and 1987; and if he will make a statement.
