HC Deb 20 May 1988 vol 133 cc607-8W
Mr. Barry Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how many qualified nursery nurses are employed by each of the local education authorities in Wales; if he will grant extra funds to Clwyd education authority so as to avoid cutbacks in nursery nurse numbers in the junior schools of Clwyd; if he will meet the Clwyd parent-teacher associations to discuss the work of nursery nurses in Clwyd; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

The number of qualified nursery assistants employed by each local education authority in Wales as at September 1987 is as follows:

Local Education Authority Number
Clwyd 309
Dyfed 152
Gwent 339
Gwynedd 64
Mid Glamorgan 341
Powys 74
South Glamorgan 105
West Glamorgan 260

It is for Clwyd local education authority to determine its own priorities within the total resources available to it.

We have no plans to meet the Clwyd parent-teachers associations.
