HC Deb 20 May 1988 vol 133 cc599-600W
Mr. Allen Adams

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what representations he has received regarding the delay in the commencement of the Paisley town centre development; and what response he has made.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

I have received a number of representations on behalf of a company which has indicated an interest in acquiring land purchased with public funds and owned by Paisley college of technology in order to facilitate a projected development in Paisley town centre. In reply I have explained that the site in question will be disposed of by open tender; and that the Scottish Education Department will not stand in the way of any arrangement which is in the interests of the college and which secures a proper return on the sale of a publicly-acquired asset.
