HC Deb 20 May 1988 vol 133 c591W
Mr. Allen

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services whether young people in full-time education who have become aged 19 years after 11 April are entitled to income support; and whether their parents are able to claim income support for them.

Mr. Portillo

People of 19 years and over in full-time education are treated as students for social security purposes. Disabled students, and lone-parent students, are eligible for income support throughout the year. Other students can claim only during the summer vacation. Parents cannot claim income support dependency additions for a person aged 19.
