HC Deb 19 May 1988 vol 133 cc525-6W
Mr. Ron Davies

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what plans he has to review the levels of expenditure by the Welsh water authority on the enhancement of water quality; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Grist

The Welsh water authority sets and reviews periodically the level of expenditure it considers appropriate to each of the functions for which it has responsibility.

Mr. Ron Davies

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will invite the Welsh water authority to conduct a survey of water quality problems and the provision of sewerage facilities in the Rhymney valley; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Grist

In discharging its statutory functions the Welsh water authority monitors the quality of waters and assesses the needs for sewerage facilities throughout its area. In the case of the Rhymney valley, the survey of water quality is undertaken by the south-east division of the Welsh water authority.
