To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) pursuant to his reply of 10 May,Official Report, column 91, how many of the five abortions performed in 1986 under ground 4 in West Cumbria were carried out at or before (a) 18 weeks, (b) 20 weeks, (c) 22 weeks, (d) 24 weeks or (e) after 24 weeks;

(2) pursuant to his reply of 10 May, Official Report, column 91, how many of the 222 abortions performed in 1986 in West Cumbria under all grounds other than ground 4 or ground 5 were carried out at or before (a) 18 weeks, (b) 20 weeks, (c) 22 weeks, (d) 24 weeks, and (e) after 24.

Of the 222 abortions performed in 1986 to usual residents of West Cumbria district health authority under all grounds other than ground 4, 221 were carried out at or before 18 weeks' gestation, and 1 at 19 weeks or more gestation.

Further information on the gestation of this latter abortion, and of the five performed under ground 4 cannot be released for reasons of confidentiality.
