To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what plans his Department has to mark the 40th anniversary of the National Health Service.

As with the marking of previous National Health Service anniversaries, the main activity will be concentrated at local level. To commemorate the anniversary I shall, however, be hosting a reception to which long-serving National Health Service staff in some of the less prominent areas of work will be invited in recognition of their contribution to the service over the past four decades.
