HC Deb 16 May 1988 vol 133 c295W
Mr. Speller

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how many discharges or deposits into the Bristol channel from south Wales sources are currently authorised in respect of raw sewage, sewage sludge, industrial, nuclear or other wastes.

Mr. Grist

The public register held by the Welsh water authority contains details of all authorised discharges including those to the waters of the Bristol channel.

In respect of the dumping of sewage sludge, the Welsh water authority holds one annual licence for dumping off the south Wales coast.

A total of 28 authorisations have been granted for the indirect discharge into the Bristol channel of low-level radioactive waste of which one relates to a licensed nuclear site.
