HC Deb 12 May 1988 vol 133 c198W
Mr. Boateng

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will press for the inception of international regulatory machinery to prevent the abuse of genetic engineering of micro-organisms, such as the release of organisms in developing countries without the approval of national authorities.

Mr. Moynihan

This subject is already under discussion internationally and the United Kingdom is playing a full and constructive part. Adequate guidance for countries wishing to control this area has already been published by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development ("Recombinant DNA Safety Considerations"; OECD Paris 1986). No further action is currently contemplated by the Government.
