§ 95. Mr. BarronTo ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what assessment he has made in planning his policy on privatisation of industries for which he is responsible of the extent to which standards of service to customers have been maintained in privatised industries.
§ Mr. Kenneth ClarkeThe circumstances surrounding each privatisation are different and all relevant factors are taken into account in the planning of each new privatisation. However, I believe that standards of service to customers are more likely to be improved when the management of the business has full commercial freedom and is exposed to the pressures of a competitive market.
