HC Deb 10 May 1988 vol 133 c68W
Mr. David Porter

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster whether he has any plans to seek to repeal the Marine &c. Broadcasting (Offences) Act 1967; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Butcher

We have international treaty obligations to maintain legislation to prevent broadcasting from beyond territorial waters. It is essential to prevent such broadcasting because of the widespread interference it can cause, Far from repealing the 1967 Act, we are considering strengthening its enforcement powers through amendments to be incorporated in the forthcoming Broadcasting Bill.
