HC Deb 10 May 1988 vol 133 c76W
Mr. Foulkes

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what information he has as to whether the conditions laid down by the Catholic Church and the 14 opposition parties in relation to the plebiscite have been met by the Government of Chile; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Mellor

We have noted the increase in the number of registered voters in Chile and the access to television of the democratic opposition, and hope that both will continue.

Additionally, I refer the hon. Member to the reply of my hon. Friend the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State to the hon. Member for Glasgow, Provan (Mr. Wray) of 22 April.

Mr. Foulkes

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if his Department's advice has been sought concerning the possible sale by British Aerospace of Hawk military aircraft to the Government of Chile; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Mellor

It has been the policy of successive British Governments not to disclose details of potential defence sales.
