§ Mr. LeightonTo ask the Secretary of State for Employment what percentage of workers in retail are(a) full-time and (b) part-time; and what were the comparable figures five years previously.
§ Mr. LeeIn December 1987, the latest date for which figures are available, the proportions of full-time and part-time employees in employment in the retail distribution industry in Great Britain were 54 per cent. and 46 per cent. respectively. There are no comparable estimates for December 1982 but comparable figures from the 1981 census of employment show that in September 1981 the proportions were 60 per cent. and 40 per cent. The figures have not been adjusted for the effects of seasonal variations.
