HC Deb 04 May 1988 vol 132 c490W
Mr. Ian Taylor

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment if he intends to issue further data from the 1986 family expenditure survey.

Mr. Cope

Yes. Since the report on the 1986 survey was published on 30 December 1987, it has been discovered that, because of a fault in a computer programme, average weekly household expenditure in 1986 was overstated by £6.92; the published figure is £185.02 whereas the revised estimate is £178.10.

An announcement of what has happened will appear in this month's Employment Gazette, together with revised data for broad groups of expenditure. The June Gazette will contain an article providing more detailed revised data.

Corrected results from the 1986 survey will be made available in early July, free of charge to those customers who have purchased a copy of the original report.
