HC Deb 04 May 1988 vol 132 c455W
Mr. Faulds

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if, in view of the intransigence of the Ethiopian Government over famine relief operations in Tigré, Her Majesty's Government will consider increasing donations to the Relief Society of Tigré through the channel of British aid agencies.

Mr. Chris Patten

We are extremely concerned about the disruption of relief operations in Eritrea and Tigré as a result of the recent intensification of civil conflict and the Ethiopian Government's decision that most expatriate relief personnel must leave these regions. Our objective remains to provide humanitarian relief to the hungry, regardless of where they are.
