HC Deb 31 March 1988 vol 130 c655W
Mr. Hargreaves

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will introduce legislation to prohibit the use of poison in the case of prostaglandin abortion; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Newton

Successive Governments have accepted since the passing of the 1967 Abortion Act that legislation in this field is initiated by private Members. The Government's position is that the method by which a legal abortion is performed is a matter for the clinical judgment of the doctor concerned, having regard to all the circumstances of the particular case.
