HC Deb 31 March 1988 vol 130 c722W
Mr. Kirkwood

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement on his policy on the initiatives to reduce damage to the ozone layer.

Mr. Moynihan

[holding answer 29 March 1988]: In September 1987 the United Kingdom signed the Montreal protocol on substances that deplete the ozone layer and we are currently working with other member states on proposals for implementing the protocol within the European Community. The Department is also discussing with representatives of producers and users of chlorofluorocarbons and halons steps to reduce consumption of these chemicals through the development of suitable and safe substitutes and measures such as recycling and recovery.
