To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what proportion of the employment programme is spent in the inner cities.

Mr. Cope

In 1987–88 it is estimated that approximately one third of the expenditure by this Department and the Manpower Services Commission on employment, training and enterprise programmes in England is in the inner cities.
