To ask the Secretary of State for Employment how many pilot projects offering intensive literacy tuition to unemployed people are being set up; and if he will make a statement.

There are currently seven pilot projects operating which offer intense literacy tuition to unemployed adults. These have been set up under the wider opportunities training programme. They will assist the development of literacy training with the employment training programme for unemployed people that my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State has announced for September.
