HC Deb 24 March 1988 vol 130 c219W
15. Mr. Sackville

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what steps he is taking to exploit the potential of angling for the Northern Ireland tourist industry; what incentives are offered to attract anglers from Great Britain; and if he will make a statement.

Dr. Mawhinney

In Northern Ireland, angling, and in particular coarse angling, has always been regarded as one of the Province's most valuable tourist products. The promotion and marketing of coarse angling have attracted world-class match anglers to the Province's many sponsored competitions, not least the 1982 world championships. The incentives on offer include capital grants for the provision of sea angling boats and reduced price fishing licences for tourists.
