HC Deb 23 March 1988 vol 130 c132W
Ms. Walley

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs why, in the case of Mr. Ghulam Farid, he is not able to offer an interview for an entry clearance application until spring 1989; and if he will give the reason for this delay.

Mr. Eggar

Priority is given to first-time applicants. Mr. Farid has previously been refused entry clearance on the grounds that the entry clearance officer was not satisfied that he was related to his sponsor in the United Kingdom, as claimed. His subsequent appeal was dismissed by an independent adjudicator. In fairness to the many other applicants awaiting first interview, Mr. Farid must continue to wait his turn in the re-applicants queue.
