To ask the Secretary of State for Employment how many vacancies in London docklands were(a) notified to, and (b) filled by jobcentres in each of the last seven years.

Following is the available information. The table shows the total numbers of placings by jobcentres and vacancies notified to jobcentres covering an area closely corresponding to the London docklands development area for each year from 1983 to 1987.

2 The jobcentres which cover the London docklands development area are Bermondsey, Plaistow, Poplar, Shoreditch and Stepney. However, vacancies notified to Bermondsey jobcentre between May 1985 and April 1986 are excluded, as they cannot be separately identified.
