To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will state the number of carers of elderly, sick or disabled people currently in receipt of the invalid care allowance.

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what plans he has to increase the value of the invalid care allowance.

We are pledged to maintain the value of invalid care allowance in line with the movement of prices and, since coming to office in 1979, we have more than done so.
