§ Mr. TrippierInformation on how much of the 632 hectares of derelict land has been reclaimed since April 1982 is not presently available. The 1988 derelict land survey is currently under way and the results are expected to be published next year. The information sought will than be readily available.
The decision that 254 hectares of derelict land did not justify reclamation was based on local authorities' own assessments at that time and would include those sites in remote rural areas which were not sufficiently obtrusive to warrant expenditure and sites for which it would be impracticable to consider reclamation because of technical and—or financial reasons.

§ Mr. TrippierSince 1982, a total of 282 urban development grants have been approved. A total of almost £137 million of grant has been offered securing private sector investment of £545 million. The grants approved will lead to 25,700 jobs, the construction of 4,700 new homes, the refurbishment of a further 1,900 homes and the reuse of 1,100 acres of land.
