HC Deb 21 March 1988 vol 130 cc25-6W
Mrs. Clwyd

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster if he will now make it his practice to answer questions concerning the Export Credits Guarantee Department's involvement in(a) particular transactions and (b) particular countries.

Mr. Alan Clark

It has been the policy of successive Administrations not to make public the terms under which guarantees issued by the Export Credits Guarantee Department (ECGD) are made available for particular markets nor to disclose details of the support provided by ECGD for individual transactions. Such disclosure of commercially confidential information could prejudice the negotiating position of the United Kingdom exporters. Disclosure of the ECGD's assessment of other countries' creditworthiness could damage relationships between Her Majesty's Government and the Government concerned.
