HC Deb 21 March 1988 vol 130 cc45-6W
Mr. Hannam

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what provisions his Department has made to improve its offices in Marsham street to make them accessible for disabled people; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

We have been at pains to make these fully accessible to wheelchair users and other people with disabilities.

Facilities in the building include wheelchair-accessible toilets, all lift buttons at wheelchair height and fitted with braille symbols and several conference rooms equipped with induction loops for people with impaired hearing.

The edges of all steps leading up to the building are colour-contrasted to help partially sighted people.

Ramped access to the building from Marsham street has been available for some years. An additional ramp has been installed within the past few weeks to improve access further.

All these facilities are regularly used by both visitors and staff.
