HC Deb 21 March 1988 vol 130 cc43-5W
Mr. Andrew Bowden

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will list the regional transport authorities which operate a concessionary fares scheme for retirement pensioners; and in each case if he will state the age of eligibility for the scheme for(a) men and (b) women.

Mr. David Mitchell

According to information supplied on a voluntary basis to the Department of Transport in 1986–87, the local authorities in England listed in the table provided concessions, either individually or jointly with other authorities, to women on reaching the age of 60 and to men on reaching the age of 65, subject in some cases to other restrictions as to income and state pension status. Two other local authorities, Bristol city and Tendring district councils made concessions available to both men and women from the age of 65.
