692Wexpenditure by local authorities. "Assisted" expenditure is taken to mean Exchequer contributions voted in estimates. Exchequer contributions in respect of assistance to housing associations cannot be disaggregated before 1976–77 as between local authority and Housing Corporation-sponsored schemes. For completeness, the table therefore also includes public and voted expenditure figures in respect of Housing Corporation-sponsored schemes. Information on public expenditure before 1971–72 and on voted expenditure before 1974–75 cannot be made available except at disproportionate cost.
