HC Deb 16 March 1988 vol 129 c609W
Mr. Roy Hughes

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what measures the Government have now adopted for early detection of rainfall which may be carrying radioactive fallout.

Mr. Moynihan

The Government's proposals for implementing their national response plan for detecting and responding to future nuclear incidents like Chernobyl were published in January (reference: "The National Response Plan and Radioactive Incident Monitoring Network (Rimnet). A Statement of Proposals"). Copies of the statement have been placed in the Library of the House. Annex 3(iv) sets out the proposed procedures for detecting radioactivity in rainwater.
