§ Mrs. RoeThe information available is for 42 authorities which are urban programme areas in London and the English metropolitan counties and the four which comprise the county of Cleveland. In these areas, first-time buyers received 58 per cent. of mortgages advanced for house purchase by building societies in 1984, 59 per cent. in 1985, 58 per cent. in 1986 and 53 per cent. in 1987.
