HC Deb 16 March 1988 vol 129 cc575-6W
Mr. McCusker

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how many times the British ambassador to the Irish Republic has been called to the Department of Foreign Affairs in Dublin during the past three months; and what matters the Government of the Irish Republic expressed concern about.

Sir Geoffrey Howe

The British ambassador to the Republic of Ireland regularly visits the Department of Foreign Affairs, at his request or at that of the Department. A variety of subjects of interest to both Governments have been raised at these meetings. He has been summoned to the Department only once in the past three months, to discuss the operation of the Prevention of Terrorism Act on 7 March.
