To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how many local authority homes were sold in 1987(a) to sitting tenants and (b) as empty properties.

English local authorities sold 90,000 homes to sitting tenants and 2,900 vacant dwellings in 1987. In addition, the London residuary body transferred some 5,500 dwellings to Thamesmead Town Limited.
