HC Deb 15 March 1988 vol 129 c535W
41. Mr. Patrick Thompson

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what estimate he has made of the scope for local education authorities to make greater use of existing spare places in schools.

Mr. Dunn

My right hon. Friend encourages local education authorities to make the maximum use of the school accommodation available to them and, where places are surplus to requirements, to take them out of use. The Government's proposals for more open enrolment are designed to ensure that no child is refused admission to a school which has places available.
