To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make it his policy to make support funding available to non-governmental organisations to attend the United Nation's third special session on disarmament 31 May to 25 June, in New York.

Mr. Mellor

We have not provided funding for this purpose at previous special sessions and do not intend to change our policy on this occasion. We do, however, hope that as many non-governmental organisations as possible will be able to attend the special session as they have a significant role to play. In recognition of this we have appointed Mr. David Summerhayes, the FCO disarmament adviser, to act as liaison officer between our delegation and those non-governmental organisations attending the special session.
