To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what information he has as to how many Gaelic-orientated courses currently exist in(a) Scottish and (b) Welsh universities.

According to the handbook of the Universities Central Council on Admissions, the number of university institutions in Scotland and Wales offering Celtic languages as subjects in degree courses in October 1988 is as follows:
