To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services how nurses' pay has altered in real terms(a) between 1974 and 1979, (b) between 1979 and 1984 and (c) since the pay review body was set up in 1984.

¹ Percentage movements in real terms pay reflect the percentage cash increase/decrease for the pay round year deflated by the increase in the retail prices index throughout the pay round year.
