HC Deb 08 March 1988 vol 129 c119W
Mr. Pike

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment whether his Department has assessed the effects of the use of chlorofluorocarbons, used as a blowing agent in the manufacture of food packaging.

Mr. Moynihan

Scientific assessment of the effects of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) undertaken by the Department's stratospheric ozone review group is concerned with total emissions not individual uses. Rigid polystyrene foam, which is widely used in the food packaging industry, uses approximately 5 per cent. of global production of CFCs.
