HC Deb 03 March 1988 vol 128 c640W
Mr. Butler

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what were the overseas earnings of the British recording industry in the latest available year.

Mr. Maude

The overseas earnings of the United Kingdom recording industry, comprising royalties from overseas on recordings made in the United Kingdom, services provided to overseas residents by the United Kingdom recording industry, profits and dividends from overseas branches and subsidiaries of United Kingdom recording companies, cannot be separately identified in the information provided to the Department for the balance of payments. In 1987 exports of pre-recorded gramophone records, tapes and other similar media were valued at £264 million.
