Mr. Leighton

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment how much has been spent on advertising the job training scheme; and how much that was per filled place since its inception.

Mr. Nicholls

Expenditure on advertising up to the end of January was some £8,370,000. This represents a cost of £115 per place filled since the start of the scheme in November 1986 up to December 1987, the latest date for which information is available.

Mr. Illsley

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what percentage of entrants to the job training scheme in Barnsley have obtained a credit or qualification as a direct result of their time on the scheme since its inception.

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment how many applications there have been for the child care allowance on the new job training scheme.

Mr. Nicholls

At the end of January 1988, the latest date for which figures are available, there had been 13 applications for child care allowance on the new Job Training Scheme in the 10 pilot areas where this allowance is available.
