29. Mr. Nigel Griffiths

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a further statement about the United Kingdom's relations with Nicaragua.

Mr. Eggar

I have nothing to add to the reply that I gave to the hon. Member for Clydesdale (Mr. Hood) on 4 November, at column726. The United Kingdom has normal diplomatic relations with Nicaragua.

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will seek to pay an official visit to Nicaragua.

Mr. Eggar

My right hon. and learned Friend has no present plans to visit Nicaragua.

66. Mr. Macdonald

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he has any further plans to expand United Kingdom diplomatic representations in Nicaragua.

Mr. Eggar

A third United Kingdom-based diplomatic service officer was posted to Managua in February, to act as pro consul. We have no plans to expand our mission further at this time.
