HC Deb 02 March 1988 vol 128 c585W
19. Mrs. Mahon

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what representations he has received from other Governments concerning the forthcoming training exercise in the Falkland Islands.

Mr. Eggar

A number of Governments in the region have expressed concern about the exercise; we have made absolutely clear that it is a routine exercise, and an integral part of our policy to maintain minimal troop levels in the Falklands as a contribution to reducing tension in the South Atlantic region.

22. Mr. Campbell-Savours

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs when he next intends to visit Port Stanley, to discuss political developments in the Falkland Islands.

Mr. Eggar

My right hon. and learned Friend has no current plans to visit Port Stanley.

37. Mr. Brandon-Bravo

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs when he last met the governor of the Falkland Islands; and what was discussed.

Mr. Eggar

My right hon. and learned Friend saw the governor of the Falkland Islands in London on 28 January 1988. They reviewed recent political and economic developments in the islands and the outlook for the future.
