HL Deb 02 March 1988 vol 494 c272WA
Baroness Gardner of Parkes

asked Her Majesty's Government:

When the University Grants Committee Dental Review Working Party is likely to report, and whether a substantial part of the UGC moneys accruing as a result of the working party's recommendations will be used to improve the quality of undergraduate dental education in the remaining dental schools.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Education and Science (Baroness Hooper)

The working party reported to the University Grants Committee on 25th February, its report, copies of which are in the Library, has been issued to universities, relevant government departments and professional bodies for comment. Among its other recommendations, the working party proposed that the savings from the reduction in intake to dental education should be used to lengthen the undergraduates' course to five years. The Government will be considering all these recommendations carefully.
