HC Deb 01 March 1988 vol 128 c494W
Mr. Bermingham

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department where the prison department intends to hold 14 to 17-year-old males and 15 to 17-year-old females, who are sentenced to less than four months custody after the Criminal Justice Bill has been passed.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

Male offenders aged 14 to 16 sentenced to less than four months custody will in due course be accommodated separately from young adult offenders aged 17 to 20, either in separate young offenders institutions or in discrete units of them. Female offenders aged 15 to 16 may not be sentenced to custody for less than four months; those aged 17 will be held as now in female establishments with designated provision for young offenders.
